Year 11 is such a special year group who, as they complete their journey through secondary school, are deserving of extra support, information and care as they plan for their next steps. This is exemplified by all at Unity College, Burnley, who have ensured their students are fully supported in making their next steps by developing a bespoke area specifically for Y11 students on the school’s website. This includes local college contacts, DFE updates on exams and a wide variety of resources and contact information to ensure their students are confident and informed about their next steps. It is essential they do not lose momentum at this key transition point.
Feedback from students and parents has been fantastic and they have reported a significant increase in their website activity. In addition, they are promoting the National Career Service who are available to help year 11 students via telephone or webchat and Future U resources to support CV writing and interview skills.
At Unity College we wanted to ensure our year 11’s fully felt supported and part of the College community during this time. We wanted to give them a place where they could regularly check in on all the latest information to support them with their next steps. Working with post 16 providers we have created a web page which we update regularly with all the latest updates and resources that are relevant to them. Traffic to this part of our web page has been constant and students regularly use this to contact relevant staff when they need support with their next stepsZoe Hammond-Phillips- Assistant Headteacher
